Business Individual Study Program (BIPS) WUEB.

What is BIPS?

The Business Individual Study Program is a project aimed at a group of ambitious WUEB 1 students. and 2nd year of first degree and 1st year of the second year of full-time studies. Students who want to gain a unique experience through a year’s work under the guidance of an academic tutor and an intern mentor.

The values we promote at BIPS are:

INITIATIVE – activity in action, entrepreneurship, autonomy and creativity;
“GRIT” – perseverance, the ability to pursue long-term goals, not letting go and seeing things through to the end;
OPENNESS TO OTHERS – altruism, empathy, selflessness, nobility and solidarity.

The courses are conducted in Polish.

Who can be a participant in the BIPS program?

Student of the 1st or 2nd year of the bachelor’s degree or the 1st year of the second year of full-time studies WUEB (faculty and direction do not matter);
A person who is ready to responsibly commit to a year’s work under the supervision of an academic tutor and mentor-practitioner (including the time required for this work and training);

BIPS is an in-house project of the Wroclaw University of Economics and Business – it is focused on building STUDENTS-STUDENT-BIZNES relations.

The goal of the program is:

Accelerate the professional, personal and social development of WUEB students,
individualizing the educational path,
support – an academic tutor and a mentor-practitioner.

Goals

-Supporting the development of WUEB students by tailoring the learning process to their individual needs and aspirations.

-Creating an educational culture based on the “master-student” relationship.

-Preparing WUEB students for the future – greater emphasis on key skills such as teamwork, creativity, problem solving, critical thinking and handling new technologies.

-Developing student entrepreneurship, supported by mentors from business and social life and academic tutors.

-Strengthening cooperation with practice, especially with leading entrepreneurs and leaders in the Lower Silesia region.

-Building lasting relationships between students, university staff and mentors.

Who is BIPS targeted at?

We welcome ambitious and committed students from various faculties and specialties (1st and 2nd year of first degree and 1st year of second degree). Students who have an idea for their future, but need the guidance and support of a practitioner mentor and academic tutor.

We also encourage educators who value working with students to join us. Working with a motivating student in a master-student relationship can broaden professional and personal competence.

For practitioners, entrepreneurs, professionals and leaders, we are opening the opportunity to share experience with young people. We invite you to support students in realizing their dreams, accompanying them in creating new business and social ventures.

What is worth knowing about BIPS?

-The BIPS project is an innovative way of learning at an economic university.

-BIPS helps students tailor their studies to their interests according to the university’s rules.

-Period ofone year – from January to December.
Recruitment takes place once a year, and classes begin in January.

-As part of the project, each student has a mentor – an academic tutor from January and a practitioner mentor from May.

-Students, together with mentors, set goals to be achieved and a work plan.
They take part in additional training, workshops and simulations.

-1-semester Erasmus trip is available. Then the mentor-practitioner, academic tutor and student must agree to work remotely – at no less than “on-site” work. In addition, if they agree on the goals and objectives that the student will pursue while abroad, such a trip need not interrupt the student’s participation in BIPS. While abroad, the student is required to maintain the same level of commitment and availability for remote meetings as other colleagues in Wroclaw.

Supporting BIPS students

-The focus is on what students learn, not on how the teacher conveys it. It’s such a shift from teacher-centered teaching to student-centered teaching, where students acquire the knowledge themselves.

-Science tailored to each student. The good old master-student relationship is back, where the mentor helps discover the student’s full potential so that the student can use his or her talents for themselves and others.

-Respect, trust, kindness as the foundation of education. We believe that good relationships between people are crucial to the learning process.

-Tight cooperation between business and science. We want students to develop skills that are useful in business, which is why we work closely with entrepreneurs. It’s a partnership approach to learning.

-Diversity in the learning process. We use a variety of methods and tools, and even use design as a guiding principle.

-Development of soft skills. In addition to knowledge itself, we teach social skills such as teamwork and conceptual thinking.

-Teamwork. We place great emphasis on teamwork, where students learn to cooperate and solve real-world problems.

-Consultations with experts. We give students a chance to talk to experts in their areas of interest.

-The importance of feedback and reflection. After each step, we give feedback and encourage people to think about what they have learned.

Despite the difficulties, he pursues his goals and wants to share the knowledge he has gained with others, especially in academia.

Who can be a BIPS mentor?

A tutor can be:
-entrepreneur, high-level professional, creator or leader of an NGO;
-practitioner with min. 5 years of experience in managing an organization or own company;
-person available (on site) for students during the implementation of the BIPS program (min. 1-semester work with the mentee);
-person prepared for the role of BIPS mentor (knowledge of the program, principles, forms, methods and tools of work).

We are looking for people:
-friendly towards students, open to their ideas and ambitions (including one-on-one work);
-with a teaching streak, willing to share their time, experience and knowledge with students, to support their charges in realizing their dreams;
-willing to get involved in the co-creation of BIPS.

The mentor has a track record of both major successes and failures – because we believe that both aspects are important: on the one hand, proficiency in project implementation is important, and on the other hand, the ability to deal with adversity is of great importance. Mentors are characterized by high visibility in their industry, and very often beyond.

Who can be a Tutor?

Tutoring is a personalized form of education based on a “master-student” relationship. This is a popular form of education at the world’s top universities. It is also developing in Poland.

The tutor is a good and valued didactician by the students. He is a person who enjoys working with students and who naturally builds authority. The tutor is characterized by kindness to the student, openness to his ideas and ambitions, and attention to his own personal and professional development.

All BIPS tutors undergo a 64-hour certification training before they start working with students, where they learn tools useful in working with mentees and principles of personalized education based on positive psychology.

The tutor meets with his mentee every two weeks for an hour. Depending on the preference of the tutor and the students’ choices – one tutor takes care of 1-3 mentees.

Tutors meet once a month (Friday 9-11 AM) at the Tutor Club to develop their workshopand participate in internal tutor supervision.
