WUEB Sustainability Plan 2026
Wroclaw University of Economics and Business has adopted the Sustainability Plan 2026, which sets out the University’s objectives and directions for action in the areas of social, economic and environmental responsibility.
Based on the Strategic Directions of the WUEB 2030 Strategy and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the document forms part of the broader process of operationalising the WUEB Strategy. It defines specific objectives and 21 performance indicators that will make it possible to monitor the progress and outcomes of the University’s activities in areas including education, research, cooperation with external stakeholders, organisational culture, internationalisation, and initiatives benefiting society and the natural environment.
The Plan was developed by the Sustainability Office through a participatory process involving both the academic community and external stakeholders. The Sustainability Office will coordinate its implementation and monitor progress, engaging various University units in the process. This approach will make it possible not only to systematically measure the outcomes of the initiatives undertaken, but also to involve the WUEB community in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and jointly shaping the University’s future.
What does the Plan mean for WUEB in practice?
The Sustainability Plan translates the objectives of the WUEB 2030 Strategy and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals into specific actions and performance indicators. It comprises 11 objectives addressing key areas of the University’s activities.
1. Research and Science
Objective: To support the advancement of knowledge and scientific progress by conducting research that addresses social, environmental and corporate governance challenges and complies with the principles of research ethics.
In practice, this means developing research and publications addressing sustainable development issues and disseminating the knowledge generated at WUEB through activities such as debates, conferences, seminars and popular science publications.
2. Student Education
Objective: To develop students’ potential by fostering informed and responsible attitudes towards sustainable development.
This involves incorporating sustainable development issues into curricula and learning content, as well as monitoring changes in students’ awareness of sustainable development.
3. Cooperation with Business and External Stakeholders
Objective: To strengthen cooperation and knowledge exchange with external stakeholders in the area of positive social impact.
WUEB will develop dialogue sessions and workshops with business representatives and strengthen the expert involvement of University employees in external bodies and organisations.
4. Positive Social Impact
Objective: To create a positive social impact through open communication and expert support.
Activities supporting this objective will include advisory services, expert opinions and recommendations provided by WUEB employees, as well as increasing the presence of University experts in the media.
5. Employees and a Responsible Organisational Culture
Objective: To foster responsible attitudes among University employees.
WUEB will develop initiatives promoting responsible attitudes and the common good and will encourage University employees to participate in them.
6. Accessibility and Inclusion
Objective: To ensure the inclusion of persons with disabilities and remove barriers faced by employees, students and doctoral students.
This means continuing to develop facilities and accommodations that increase the accessibility of the University for persons with disabilities.
7. International Standing
Objective: To strengthen the University’s international standing through participation in ratings and rankings measuring social impact and through membership in international organisations, associations and institutions concerned with sustainable development.
WUEB will further develop its presence in initiatives including the Times Higher Education Impact Ratings and the Positive Impact Rating (PIR), as well as in international institutions focused on sustainable development.
8. Digital Accessibility
Objective: To enhance digital accessibility and social inclusion.
This means increasing the proportion of digital services that comply with accessibility standards, such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and developing digital solutions supporting persons with disabilities.
9. Responsible Technology
Objective: To support the responsible management of electronic equipment.
WUEB will take the energy efficiency of the technologies it uses into account, including through the purchase of energy-efficient electronic equipment.
10. Environment and Climate
Objective: To reduce the University’s negative impact on the natural environment.
This involves activities related to the University’s decarbonisation, the development of renewable energy sources and investments in the thermal modernisation and energy efficiency of University buildings.
11. Local Communities
Objective: To generate a positive impact on local communities by addressing key challenges.
WUEB will continue to develop initiatives for the benefit of local communities and engage participants in these activities, thereby strengthening the University’s positive impact on its wider environment.
