WUEB researcher wins the Polish Economic Society Award

Dr hab. Paweł Dobrzański, Associate Professor at WUEB, has received the 2026 Polish Economic Society (PTE) Professor Edward Lipiński Award. Each year, the PTE gives the award to books that make a new contribution to economic theory. Professor Dobrzański was recognised for a monograph on why regions of the European Union develop at different speeds.

The award-winning book, Lagging Regions in the European Union: Structural, Productivity and Efficiency Aspects, was published by the international publisher Routledge. In it, the author explains why some regions grow faster than others, why the gaps between them persist despite years of support, and how they can be reduced more effectively.

Regional development and the effectiveness of EU funds are our Expert’s main areas of research. He examines whether EU funding helps raise labour productivity in less developed regions and narrow their distance to better developed ones. This is an important question for cohesion policy, the EU policy designed to reduce economic and social disparities between regions.

Warmest congratulations on this achievement!
