The Wroclaw University of Economics and Business (WUEB) has participated in the prestigious Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for the first time, one of the world’s leading international rankings assessing universities’ contributions to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In this year’s edition, WUEB achieved an overall score of 54.7 out of 100, placing the University in the 801–1000 band among participating universities worldwide.
A Ranking That Measures Real-World Impact
Times Higher Education Impact Ratings różni się od tradycyjnych rankingów akademickich. Ocenia nie tylko osiągnięcia naukowe, ale przede wszystkim rzeczywisty wpływ uczelni na otoczenie społeczne, gospodarcze i środowiskowe. Analizowane są m.in. działania na rzecz równości, jakości edukacji, zrównoważonego rozwoju, współpracy z otoczeniem społeczno-gospodarczym, odpowiedzialnego zarządzania zasobami czy wspierania innowacji.
Udział w rankingu stanowi potwierdzenie zaangażowania uczelni w rozwiązywanie współczesnych wyzwań cywilizacyjnych oraz budowanie trwałej wartości dla społeczeństwa.
Obecność UEW w Times Higher Education Impact Ratings jest spójna z założeniami Strategii 2030, która podkreśla znaczenie odpowiedzialności społecznej, zrównoważonego rozwoju, wysokiej jakości badań naukowych oraz aktywnego wpływu uczelni na rozwój regionu, kraju i społeczności międzynarodowej.
WUEB’s Highest-Ranked Areas
Unlike traditional academic rankings, the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings evaluate not only research excellence but also the tangible social, economic, and environmental impact of universities. The assessment covers a broad range of activities, including promoting equality, quality education, sustainable development, engagement with local and global communities, responsible resource management, and support for innovation.
Participation in the ranking confirms the University’s commitment to addressing today’s global challenges and creating lasting value for society.
WUEB’s presence in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings is fully aligned with the objectives of the University’s Strategy 2030, which emphasizes social responsibility, sustainable development, high-quality research, and the University’s active contribution to the development of the region, the country, and the international community.
WUEB’s Highest-Ranked Areas
The University’s strongest performance was recorded in the following Sustainable Development Goals:
- SDG 5 – Gender Equality – ranked in the 401–600 band;
- SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth – ranked in the 401–600 band;
- SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production – ranked in the 401–600 band.
The University received particularly high scores for its research performance, gender equality policies, employment practices, and sustainability reporting.
Among the highest-scoring indicators were:
- SDG 4 – Quality Education research publications (79.4);
- SDG 5 – Gender Equality research publications (82.7);
- the proportion of senior female academics (97.4) within SDG 5;
- SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth research publications (81.5);
- the percentage of staff employed on secure contracts (93.2) within SDG 8;
- SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions research publications (71.0);
- publication of sustainability reports (100.0) within SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.
A Strong Foundation for Future Development
WUEB’s debut in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings marks an important milestone in strengthening the University’s international recognition. It also demonstrates that the activities undertaken by the WUEB academic community generate measurable impact in areas crucial to the future of society and the economy.
The results achieved provide a solid foundation for further expanding the University’s sustainability initiatives and strengthening its position in future editions of the ranking.
