The AI in FINANCE Hackathon took place at inQUBE in Wrocław. The event was organised by the AI HUB UEW community, under the auspices of the WUEB Academic AI Centre, in cooperation with BNY. Over the course of one day, student teams worked on a challenge rooted in the financial sector, using artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analysis tools.
Four teams reached the final. The main prize of PLN 10,000 was awarded to the team composed of Maksymilian Zakrzewski, Wojciech Hebisz and Maciej Zmitrukiewicz.
The event was another stage in WUEB’s cooperation with BNY. BNY had previously acted as a strategic partner of the inQUBE Academy programme and later co-created, together with Google experts, workshops on designing AI tutors for academic teachers from three WUEB faculties. The hackathon extended this cooperation towards students, project teams and applications of AI in finance. The challenge was to develop a user-friendly, practical, and scalable AI-powered solution that converts technical documentation from various formats and styles into a structured XML format compliant with the selected technical writing standard.
The event was mentored by dr hab. Iwona Chomiak-Orsa, prof. UEW, who leads an international project on generative artificial intelligence in organisational knowledge management and dr hab. Krzysztof Piontek, prof UEW. Students were also supported by doctoral candidates from the Department of Business Intelligence in Management at WUEB and experts from BNY.
Projects were assessed in terms of technical quality, the suitability of the AI model used, business value and user experience. As a result, participants worked not only on code, but also on whether their solution could respond to the needs of a financial organisation.
The AI in FINANCE Hackathon shows how a university’s research competences, student activity and the experience of a business partner can create a shared development environment. It is an example of cooperation in which academic knowledge meets the challenges of economic practice, while students learn to design technologies with application, responsibility and user value in mind.
We would like to thank all participants, the AI HUB UEW team, Dr hab. Iwona Chomiak-Orsa, prof. UEW, dr hab. Krzysztof Piontek, prof UEW, doctoral candidates f from the Department of Business Intelligence in Management at WUEB and Department of Information Technologies at WUEB, BNY experts and the inQUBE team.
