WUEB researchers visited Kanagawa University

From June 30 to July 4, 2025, we had the unique and exceptional opportunity to stay at Kanagawa University (Yokohama, Japan) within the framework of the Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility 2024/2025 program.

Kanagawa University was founded in 1928 by Yoshimori Yoneda (米田吉盛) as Yokohama Academy (横浜学院, Yokohama gakuin). In 1949, the college was transformed into Kanagawa University. Currently, the university has two campuses: the Yokohama Campus and the Minato Mirai Campus, with a total enrollment of approximately 20,000 students.

Our stay at the university began with a presentation of both campuses, during which we were introduced, among other things, to a project of collaboration with the business community involving the joint cultivation and processing of hops (students and company representatives together), as well as a 3D printing center available to students to foster creativity.

During our stay, we delivered a series of lectures for students of Kanagawa University (Faculty of Economics), including:

  • Justyna Zabawa: Non-financial reporting in banks. The perspective of ESG regulations, ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) in the banking sector, Poland’s Post-Communist Transition;
  • Iwo Augustyński: Poland’s Post-Communist Transition, Money in the Modern Economy.

Each lecture was preceded by a short presentation on Wroclaw University of Economics and Business and on Poland. One of the lectures – Poland’s Post-Communist Transition – we conducted jointly for Prof. Kazuho Yokogawa. At the end of the lectures, students asked questions, and discussions developed around the topics covered.

During the visit, we had the opportunity to work with many professors from Kanagawa University, including Nori Tanaka, Kazuho Yokogawa, Haruhiko Doman, Masashi Yamamoto, and Hiroshi Iwaki. The university also invited us to a joint evening dinner, during which we had the chance to get to know these colleagues more closely.

We hope that participation in the program will result in further collaboration, including joint publications and participation in conferences.

The International Cooperation Office at Kanagawa University provided us with support and care throughout our stay. Special thanks go to Simon John (International Center), who accompanied us during each lecture, showed us both campuses, and introduced us to the university’s history. He ensured that our stay took place in a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere.

Special thanks for preparing the trip are also due to Prof. Bogusława Drelich-Skulska and Iwona Przyłęcka from Wroclaw University of Economics and Business (International Cooperation Center).
