Students as Business Consultants: Workshops with Henley Business School

Third-year Finance students participated in innovative workshops titled “Case Studies in Enterprise – consultancy workshops with real businesses”, delivered as part of the Case Studies in Enterprise course.

The two-day intensive workshops, organized in collaboration with Henley Business School, followed an experiential learning format and applied the PRME Impactful Five (i5) methodology, combining academic knowledge with hands-on consulting practice.

Real business challenges

During the workshops held on 27–28 April 2026, students worked on real-life challenges provided by two companies: MiCo Scientific and Dozagro. Company representatives introduced their business problems, after which student teams developed comprehensive solutions in a project-based format.

Support from practitioners

The workshops were led by Dr. Karolina Daszyńska-Żygadło (Wrocław University of Economics and Business) and Keith Heron (Henley Business School, University of Reading), both emphasizing a practical approach to education. An important contribution was made by Magdalena Kazimierska (BNY), who supported students in developing and delivering professional presentations.

Innovative pedagogy in practice

The workshops build on the same experiential model presented at the AACSB ICAM 2026 session “From Ideas to Impact: Experiential Sprint for Sustainability with Real Start-Ups and NGOs.”

The program was grounded in the PRME Impactful Five (i5) framework, which assumes that effective learning should be:

  • Meaningful – based on real-world problems and authentic contexts,
  • Joyful – supporting well-being, motivation, and positive engagement,
  • Socially interactive – centered on collaboration and learning from others,
  • Actively engaging – involving students as active creators of solutions,
  • Iterative – driven by testing, feedback, and continuous improvement.

From analysis to presentation

On the first day, students formed teams and engaged in direct dialogue with company representatives to analyze the challenges and define clear problem statements. The second day focused on intensive solution development using business and design tools, complemented by communication training and concluding with final pitches presented to company representatives and faculty.

A learning experience with lasting impact

The workshops reflect the university’s strong focus on developing practical competencies:

– This workshop format demonstrates how we combine high-quality academic education with practical career preparation. Students not only gain theoretical knowledge but also develop key consulting skills such as analytical thinking, creativity, communication, and teamwork.

The “Case Studies in Enterprise– consultancy workshops with real businesses” workshops align with the WUEB Strategy 2030, exemplifying experiential education that equips students to address real-world business challenges.
