Prof. dr hab. inż. Marcin Łukaszewicz

Professor Marcin Łukaszewicz is a biotechnologist and innovation leader bridging science, entrepreneurship, and strategic governance. He is a Professor at the Faculty of Production Engineering, Wrocław University of Economics and Businessand has been affiliated with the University of Wrocław since the early stages of his academic career.

He obtained his PhD in Plant Molecular Biology at Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium), followed by habilitation in biology, and the title of full professor in Poland (2019). His research spans industrial microbiology, bioprocess engineering, and circular bioeconomy, with particular emphasis on lipopeptide biosurfactants, biotransformation and valorisation of agro‑food industry by‑products, and methanogenesis, databases (PhyMet2) and related sustainability challenges.

PhyMet2 (Phylogeny and Metabolism of Methanogens) is an online database and toolkit that integrates curated descriptions of methanogenic archaea with their culturing conditions and genetic/sequence information, and includes MethanoGram to help predict key cultivation parameters from 16S rRNA sequences; available at: https://www.phymet2.biotech.uwr.edu.pl/index.php?ind=about

In parallel with his academic work, he serves as CEO and co‑founder of InventionBio S.A., which develops sustainable solutions derived from waste‑free biorefinery processes, including applications in cosmetics, animal feeding, biofertilisers and other bio-based markets.
