Should the value of academic research be judged by the number of publications and citations, or by its influence on the economy, public policy and everyday decisions? This question is increasingly changing how business schools around the world think about scholarship, and it set the agenda for an international conference in Dublin in which Wroclaw University of Economics and Business took part.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first AACSB conference dedicated entirely to research impact<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On 26\u201327 May 2026, the AACSB Research Impact Conference 2026 took place at University College Dublin (UCD College of Business), an international event devoted to the role of research in shaping the economy, business education, public policy and social life. Organised by AACSB International in partnership with the Academy of Management, the conference brought together more than 200 representatives of business schools, accreditation bodies, academic publishers, research funding organisations and academic leaders from around the world. On behalf of AACSB, the event was led by Eileen McAuliffe, Executive Vice President and Chief Thought Leadership Officer at AACSB International. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wroclaw University of Economics and Business was represented at the event by Justyna Morawska-P\u0142oskonka, Research Impact and Science Communication Manager, and Agnieszka Drami\u0144ska, Deputy Director for Evaluation and Research Communication at the Main Library. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research impact: a new way of thinking about scholarship<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The conference programme focused on one of the central challenges facing contemporary higher education: how to define, support, measure and communicate the impact of research in a world where universities are increasingly expected to demonstrate responsibility, transparency and the ability to respond to the needs of the economy and society. The tone was set by the opening keynote of Professor Andrew J. Hoffman of the University of Michigan, titled \u201cBusiness School Research Impact: The Urgency of Now\u201d, which argued that methodological rigour remains necessary but is no longer sufficient on its own as a measure of the value of research. The same question resonates with the direction in which WUEB is developing, where thinking about research is gradually adopting the perspective of research impact, encompassing the way research is planned, assessed and communicated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

New guidance for business schools within AACSB<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

During the conference, new guidance in this area was announced for business schools within the AACSB community. The report A Framework for Research Impact: Insights, Pathways, and Calls to Action<\/em><\/a>, prepared by the AACSB Global Research Impact Task Force and aligned with the AACSB 2026 standards (the Global Standards for Business Education and the associated Pathways to Impact model), calls for a broader understanding of research impact that reaches beyond publication and citation counts. It treats impact as the result of a deliberately designed institutional ecosystem that includes strategy, infrastructure, incentives, stakeholder engagement, research communication and organisational culture. The report is accompanied by two practical tools, developed on the basis of a global survey of nearly 1,000 deans, faculty and industry representatives: a research impact assessment tool and an ecosystem guide, which allow a school to see how its impact is actually distributed rather than relying on mission statements alone. WUEB on the path to AACSB accreditation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Participation in the conference is part of WUEB’s consistent preparations for AACSB accreditation. The University has been an AACSB member since 2017 and continues to develop a culture of quality, academic responsibility and cooperation with its socio-economic environment, relating its own activities to the best international practice in research impact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The direction WUEB has taken corresponds to the logic the AACSB report sets out. The University is steadily building the conditions in which research impact can develop, from Strategy 2030 and its cooperation with the socio-economic environment, through research evaluation and science communication, to the presence of social impact as a distinct area on badania.uew.pl. These are the same elements the report describes as an ecosystem of impact, which lets WUEB measure its own work against an international point of reference rather than design it from the ground up. <\/p>\n\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
