On 2 December 2025, at the Presidential Palace, the President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki established the Family and Demography Council \u2013 a new advisory body focusing on Poland\u2019s demographic policy and the systemic support of families. Among the 24 members of the Council is Prof. Marek Ko\u015bny, Vice Rector for Research.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Family and Demography Council is to lead a long-term strategic debate on the conditions shaping the situation of Polish families <\/strong>and on how to design public interventions that improve the country\u2019s demographic outlook. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its tasks include, among others, preparing opinions for the President of the Republic of Poland on the situation of families, drafting assumptions and proposals for legislative initiatives in the field of family policy, and formulating recommendations on the future direction of public policies in this area.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Marek Ko\u015bny<\/strong> is a professor of social sciences, V-ce Rector for Research and Head of the Department of Econometrics and Operations Research. His research focuses on the application of statistical and econometric methods to the analysis of socio-economic phenomena \u2013 in particular income distribution, inequality, the economic security of households and poverty<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is the author of several dozen academic publications and has served as principal investigator and co-investigator in numerous national and international research projects.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

As Chair of the Scientific Council of the Polish Economic Society, a member of the Council for Statistics and the Scientific Council of the Institute of Labour and Social Studies, and Chair of the Expert Team of the Association of Large Families \u201cThree Plus\u201d, Prof. Marek Ko\u015bny brings to the Council unique experience at the intersection of academic research, data analysis and the practical design of public policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The appointment of the WUEB Vice Rector to the Family and Demography Council represents the direct inclusion of our University in the nationwide debate on long-term demographic policy<\/strong>. It creates a forum in which research carried out at WUEB \u2013 on issues such as inequality, the economic security of families and the effectiveness of social policy instruments \u2013 can tangibly inform the shape of system-level solutions over the coming decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
