In the “Different Points of View” programme on Radio Wroc\u0142aw, experts discussed contemporary threats, the costs of security, and the long-term consequences of past decisions. Among the guests was Prof. Przemys\u0142aw Skulski from the Wroclaw University of Economics and Business (Department of Macroeconomics, WUEB), whose analyses addressed both rational defence spending and societal resilience.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cost of Security and the Need for a Coherent Strategy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The professor recalled that part of today\u2019s challenges stems from the loss of research and industrial potential during the systemic transformation: “We disarmed ourselves by choice, dismantling a significant part of Poland\u2019s defence industry, above all many research centres.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also stressed that defence expenditures exceeding 5% of GDP are “dangerous”and “unsustainable in the long term.” From the perspective of the state, what matters most is a coherent, long-term strategy rather than reactive purchases. “Security has a price \u2013 a very concrete one.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Offensive Technology and Anti-Drone Defence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Given the growing role of unmanned systems, Prof. Skulski emphasised the need for the parallel development of offensive and defensive means: “It is not about discarding drones \u2013 absolutely not, because they are the future. But one must remember that in many countries very advanced work is being carried out on anti-drone weapons.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resilience against Disinformation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Security is also about informational resilience: “It is crucial to build a wise society, resistant also to fake news [\u2026]. We must not be deceived \u2013 we must verify information through reliable sources.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
